OUR HISTORY
The CARMA estate is nestled in an area of Radda in Chianti renowned for its rich historical and cultural significance, dedicated to producing wines of unparalleled quality. The nearby settlement of Poggio la Guardia, boasting Etruscan origins, and the ancient terraced vineyards, bear witness to the millennia-long tradition of cultivating Vitis Vinifera in these lands. It is this profound appreciation of our historical heritage that prompted us to breathe new life into the estate, meticulously restoring the 13th-century buildings and preserving the original terraced vineyards. Drawing on 40 years of experience in restoring farmhouses and historic buildings, Massimiliano Carnasciali, a seasoned building entrepreneur, brings his expertise and meticulous attention to detail to the land. This vision inspires the project to replant vineyards on the old terraces, a venture wholeheartedly supported by his family, particularly his daughter, Caterina. A dynamic young oenologist and passionate wine enthusiast, she epitomizes the spirit of the company: having enthusiastically contributed to the project's inception, she now adeptly manages its administration and meticulously attends to its nuances. Her dedication channels both her passion and expertise into the company, alongside a steadfast commitment to continuous learning and refinement. Carma's inception stems from a profound love for the region and its historical significance. It aspires to embody itself in a product of unparalleled quality deeply rooted in centuries-old tradition, all the while respecting and elevating it. The guidance of Toscano, Massimiliano's uncle, who has nurtured and cherished these lands for six decades, has proven invaluable.
The 3.5 hectares of vineyards cascade gracefully across a natural amphitheatre. Thoughtful planning went into the layout, considering factors such as exposure, soil type, and altitude for each plot. This meticulous approach enhances the unique characteristics of each vine and results in the crafting of premium, complex wines. Consequently, a significant portion of the work is carried out by hand.
